Tips for Eating Out
Dining out with friends, family and co-workers doesn't have to tip the weight-loss scales! It's simple to make healthy choices just by keeping the following tips in mind. Whenever possible:
- Choose broiled, grilled, poached, roasted, steamed or stir-fried dishes.
- Ask for all sauces and salad dressings to be served on the side.
- Restaurant portions are typically oversized so think about taking home some leftovers, rather than eating everything in one sitting. It will save you time in meal preparation the next day as well!
- If you know in advance that you'll be eating out that day, try to eat healthy meals throughout the day and definitely don't skip any meals. By doing this, you're less likely to arrive famished. This will make the task of making healthier choices much more appealing!
- Try to have a bowl of vegetable soup or broth like soup before going out to eat. Studies show that soup can curb the appetite.
- Chew your food as much as possible and eat slowly. This will allow your brain time to send you a signal when you're full, thus avoiding overeating.
